Illinois House member David Welter will host a fishing derby for children next weekend. The purpose is to teach kids about fishing and to let them practice their skills. Illinois Conservation Police will make a presentation about water and boating safety. There’ll be help for kids to bait hooks and reel in fish.
The first 50 kids to arrive get a free rod-and-reel combination set. That event will be from 9am to noon Saturday, October 2 at the Heidecke Lake Fishing Bank east of Morris. There’ll be prizes for the biggest fish and the most fish.
