Sanitary sewer mains in Ottawa are being rehabilitated.

The city says contractors are installing pipe liners into existing sewer pipelines.

Commissioner Tom Ganiere says there won’t be a lot of areas where the city roads will be broken open because the city is using a trenchless method.

Ganiere says there shouldn’t be a stink from the sewer work.

The city says residents should limit how much they shower or do laundry because there will be some disruption.

When work beings in your area the city also wants to remind homeowners of the following:

There will be some temporary disruption of sanitary service, so keep general water use (showers, laundry, etc.) to a minimum for about a day.

If there is an odor you can reduce them by pouring a gallon of water into sinks, drain openings and floor drains, especially those that aren’t used often. Opening windows might also help.

Occasionally, pressure in a sewer line will force water out of toilets and drains. To help keep toilets flushed clean, drape a towel over the rim and close the lid/seat. Also cover basement floor drains.

Temporary inconveniences may include noise from equipment and some street closures may happen to help with the project.
