The battery warehouse fire site in Morris will be cleaned up under Illinois Environmental Protection Agency supervision. The agency announced the agreement with Superior Battery Thursday.
Company owner Jin Zheng told WCMY in June, he’s been working on starting a battery and solar panel business. Part of the warehouse would have opened next year. He expected to need three or four years to fully open the place.
Zheng believed a battery shorted and got hot, leading to the fire. Toxic smoke and the explosion danger put more than 3,000 people in that part of Morris out of their homes.
