Byron and Dresden Nuclear Power Plants might not be shutting down for now.
The state senate Monday passed the energy bill that will keep the nuclear power plants open for another five years.
St. Sen Sue Rezin says without the nuclear power plants, taxpayers would be paying a lot more.
She says 70% of Illinois customers would pay billions more if not for the nuclear power plants.
Rezin says she doesn’t agree with everything in the bill.
But she says that it will preserve thousands of jobs and keep the nuclear fleet online.
