Wednesday is the last day for schools to sign up for Adopt-a-Cow. The program run through the Midwest Dairy Council is a substitute for field trips to farms. Spokeswoman Robin Brown says a lot of teachers want to teach about agriculture, but they can’t all get to the farms.

A farmer sends pictures of a cow shortly after it’s born and has chat sessions with students throughout the school year about the animal’s development. Signup is at www.discoverdairy.com.
