Instead of going to arbitration over a discipline issue, Ottawa’s city council and a police officer are agreeing to change the officer’s punishment. The City Council approved the agreement this week for a two-day suspension for Wesley Pender. Mayor Dan Aussem says the suspension was going to be for three days, but Pender wanted to fight it. He says each side wanted to avoid the cost and risk of arbitration.
