St. Rep. David Welter voted for the energy bill that will help keep nuclear power plants open. But he says Democrats shut Republicans out of negotiations again and the legislation pits nuclear power communities against those with fossil fuel power plants.

Welter says it’s an embarrassment that the legislature finally got something to vote on with the Dresden power plant on the brink of closure.

St. Rep. Tom Demmer says he would have voted against parts of the bill had they been brought up separately, but he supported it to keep the Byron power plant open.

St. Sen. Sue Rezin says the state is a step closer to preserving its nuclear fleet and saving thousands of jobs, and she looks forward to returning to Springfield Monday to take up the bill.
