Jimmy Lambert recorded the first win of his Major League career as the White Sox defeated the A’s 6-3 in Oakland. Lambert allowed one-run on three-hits over five-innings. César Hernández and Brian Goodwin each drove in a pair for the South-Siders, which has won five of seven. Liam Hendriks posted his 33rd save.

The Cubs seven game winning streak is over after falling to the Reds 4-3 at Wrigley Field. Adrian Sampson suffered the loss after surrendering two-runs over five-innings. Willson Contreras, Rafael Ortega, and Ian Happ each homered for the North-Siders.
Cubs first baseman Frank Schwindel was named the National League Player of the Week.
The Cardinals lost again to the Dodgers 7-2 at Busch Stadium. J.A. Happ fell to 8-and-8 after giving up four-runs over five innings. Nolan Arenado drove in both runs for St. Louis, which dropped its fourth straight game.
Longtime Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright announced he is planning to play next season. Wainwright’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season, it is unknown where he might be pitching next.
Four players are joining baseball’s all-time greats as they are inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame today. Derek Jeter, Larry Walker, Ted Simmons and the late Marvin Miller will cement their legacy in major league baseball history during the ceremony which takes place in Cooperstown, New York. All four are members of the Class of 2020, which had its induction postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The US Open continues in New York. On the men’s side, 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz had his run to the Quarterfinals cut short due to an injury. He was ousted by 12th-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime after retiring in the second set. On the women’s side, 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez beat fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina in three-sets to continue her unexpected string of upset victories. She’s the youngest woman to advance to the US Open Semifinals since Maria Sharapova in 2005.

Marquette defeated Somonauk in varsity volleyball. Leading the Lady Cru was Kaylee Killelea with 5 aces 3 kills and 18 assists. Kelsey Quinn, Eva McCallum and Makayla Backos had 4 kills each and Lindsey Kaufmann led the Defense with 5 digs.
The JV Lady Crusaders were also winners over Somonauk in two straight sets. Marquette’s Nora Rinearson finished with 3 aces and 6 digs.
Also in volleyball, Streator lost at Wilmington in two straight sets. The Lady Bulldogs were led by two kills and two aces from Devin Elia in the loss.
Streator outscored Manteno at home 2-1 in Varsity soccer, Brady Grabowski and Davey Rashid each scored for the Bulldogs.
