The White Sox Travel to California for a three game series with the Oakland A’s.

Pregame begins 8 with first pitch at 8:40pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.

 

The Cubs are on a roll.  Frank Schwindel drove in the game winning run in the eighth in a 4-3 win over the Reds at Wrigley Field.  Ian Happ drilled a three-run homer in the first inning for the North-Siders.  Scott Effross earned the win and Adam Morgan recorded his second save.  

 

Cardinal hitters were silenced by Dodgers’ ace Max Scherzer in a 5-1 Labor Day loss at Busch Stadium. Scherzer struck out 13 batters and allowed only one unearned run over eight innings.  The Cards’ Miles Mikolas suffered the defeat after giving up five runs, four earned, over five frames.

 

The Chicago Bulls are bolstering their frontcourt by adding free-agent Alize Johnson .  Johnson is a  6-7 power forward who played last season with the Brooklyn Nets.  The Bulls have also agreed to a contract with Stanley Johnson. The 6-foot-6 versatile defender played with the Toronto Raptors last season.

 

The Chicago Bears officially announced yesterday the signing of veteran receiver Breshad Perriman.  The 27-year-old has played for five seasons with the Ravens, Browns, Buccaneers, and Jets.  The Bears start the NFL regular season on Sunday on the road against the LA Rams.

 

The US Open continues in New York.  On the men’s side, top-seeded Novak Djokovic overcame a rough first set to take down American Jenson Brooksby in four sets. . On the women’s side, Shelby Rogers was upset in a straight-set loss to 18-year-old Emma Raducanu.  She was the final American woman left in the field.  

 

High School results from Labor Day Weekend.

 

The Ottawa girls tennis team placed third at their eight team invitational on King Tennis courts. Lady Pirates that were match winners, Ella Marvel and Sara Meyer in singles. The team of Kyleigh Olszewski and Jenna Smithmeyer, partners Madison Lineback and Emma Stumpf and the duo of Rylee O’Fallon and Emma Cushing all had wins in doubles.

The Ottawa Volleyball team finished with a 3-2 record at the Rochelle Hub Invitational and placed third at the event. Top performer for the Lady Pirates was Grace Landers with seven digs, four kills and eight assists in their victory over Rochelle.

The Seneca High School Cross Country team played host to 20 schools and 4 races over the Labor Day weekend. In the Girl’s Varsity race, the team finished 2nd with Freshman Evelyn O’Connor winning the race and Junior Ashley Alsvig placed 5th.  In the very competitive Varsity Boy’s race, the team finished 5th place with Sophomore Austin Aldridge finishing in 6th place.
