Searchers removed a body from the Illinois River near Peru this morning. The LaSalle County Coroner’s Office says it could take days or weeks to identify the person. The body was on the south river bank by the Illinois 251 bridge. The police and rescue agencies had gathered at LaSalle-Peru High School to search for the missing college student whose car showed up in Peru.
On Thursday last week, 25-year old Jelani Day’s car was found in a wooded area in Peru. Day is an Illinois State University graduate student who has not been heard from since Tuesday last week. Searchers looked for him last Thursday but didn’t find him. Bloomington police were involved in this morning’s search.
