A ceremony was held Thursday at Clinton and Jefferson Streets to remember the 10 year anniversary of the unveiling of the Radium Girl Statue.
The statue was put in place to remember the legacy of the women who were subjected to radium poisoning because of the Radium Dial Company.
Darlene Halm, a niece of Margaret “Peg” Looney, remembered her aunt and what she did for the company.
Halm says that the women hired had to use a technique called tip pointing.
The technique would lead to many health issues including women having wounds that wouldn’t heal because of the radium.
Halm says her aunt died at age 24.
