The Ottawa Varsity tennis team were winners at Kaneland 4-1. For the Lady Pirates, Ella Marvel and Sara Meyer were winners in singles. Partners Kyleigh Oszlewski and Jenna Smithmeyer and the team of Emma Cushing and Rylee O’fallon were winners in doubles.

The JV team lost to Kaneland 3-2.  Layne Krug won in singles and Mika Moreland and Aubrey Sanders were winners in doubles for Ottawa.

 

The Streator varsity team lost to Lisle in two straight sets in Volleyball.  Mallory Goerne had 5 kills and Abby Bedecker finished with 8 assists, 1 ace and 1 kill for the Lady Bulldogs.

The JV team beat Lisle, Sophia Pence led Streator with 7 kills, 4 digs and 3 aces.

 

A couple results in soccer, Ottawa outscored Chillicothe 3-1. Gio Resendez had 2 goals and Evan Snook knocked one in for the Pirates.

 

Streator won at home over Herscher 3-0. Goalie Noah Camp made five saves in the shutout for the Bulldogs.

 

In golf, LP won on the road at Morris 160-172. Top performers for the Cavaliers were Carter Fenza, with a score of 38 and Coleman Rundle with a 39.

 

The LP Lady Cavaliers were winners over Seneca, Sandwich and St. Bede at Oak Ridge Golf Course in Utica.

 

Streator defeated Woodland at Wolf Creek golf course.The Bulldogs Noah Colter led all golfers with a 41.

 

Elsewhere in Sports

The White Sox scored twice in the sixth to claim a 4-2 victory over the Pirates at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Home runs from Yasmani Grandal and José Abreu gave the South-Siders an early 2-0 lead.  Michael Kopech earned the win in relief and Liam Hendriks posted his 30th save. 

 

The Sox placed All-Star right-hander Lance Lynn on the 10-day injured list yesterday with right knee inflammation. Fellow right-hander Lucas Giolito exited last night’s victory over the Pirates in the fifth due to left hamstring tightness. 

 

The White Sox wrap up their home series with Pittsburgh. Carlos Rodon will take the mound to face Max Kranick and the Pirates. Pregame begins at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.

 

 

Frank Schwindel and Ian Happ homered as the Cubs beat the Twins 3-1 in Minneapolis.  Robinson Chirinos added an RBI triple for the North-Siders, which has won two of three.  Manuel Rodríguez got the win and Rowan Wick shut it down for his first save.   

 

The Cardinals and Reds play a doubleheader today at Great American Ball Park after last night’s game was postponed due to rain. The Cards took the series opener 3-1 on Monday.    

 

Chicago Sky fell 103-83 to the Mercury in Phoenix. The Sky will visit the Las Vegas Aces tomorrow night.

 

The US Open continues in New York.  On the men’s side, number one ranked Novak Djokovic won his opening match with a four-set victory over Holger Rune.  Fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev  cruised past American Sam Querrey in a three-set sweep. On the women’s side, top-seeded Ashleigh Barty advanced to Round Two with a two-set win over Vera Zvonareva.
