Dolores M. Nielsen
1924-2021

Dolores M. (Kusnerik) Nielsen, 96, of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Lostant, IL, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Lostant with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator, IL. Visitation will be held 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Mueller Funeral Home, Lostant with recital of the Rosary at 4:45 PM. Additional visitation will be 10-10:50 AM Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Nielsen was born September 28, 1924, in Streator, to Andrew and Margaret (Kacmarik) Kusnerik. She graduated from Streator High School in 1942. On January 30, 1947, she married Carl J. Nielsen, spending their life farming in LaSalle and Putnam counties.

Dolores was employed at the Farmer’s State Bank of Lostant (now Illini State Bank). She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lostant and was involved in many of its ministries. She loved her family and enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with friends playing cards or going to the theater and restaurants. She and her late husband were snowbirds in Florida for many years. In 2015, she moved to Bradenton to live with her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Nielsen of Bradenton, FL; daughter-in-law, Eileen Nielsen of Altamonte Springs, FL; a sister, Pat (Owen) Lyons of Pontiac, IL; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Carl, her husband of 53 years; her sons, William “Bill” and Donald Nielsen; her parents; and five brothers, Lawrence, Francis, Daniel, John and Ervin Kusnerik.
