The Ottawa Pirates defeated Sandwich at King Field 42-14 breaking a 14 game losing streak and a 23 road game losing streak. Javarius Whitfield rushed for four touchdowns, including a state record 99-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Braiden Miller threw for 190 yards and a touchdown to sophomore Levi Sheehan.
The Pirates will host the Streator Bulldogs next Friday at King Field on 95.3 Jack FM.
Marquette tied Dakota at 14 at the end of the first quarter when the Officials huddled with the coaches and it was decided to suspend the game at that point. The heat index on the field at Gould Stadium was 109 degrees, well beyond the IHSA’s acceptable limit of 104 degrees for holding games. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, but had to be moved due to a lack of officials.

Volleyball
Streator competed in the Ottawa High School Tournament. Top performer for the Lady Bulldogs was Ellie Iserman with 9 kills, 9 assists and 4 aces.
The hosting Pirates placed fifth overall. Top performers for Ottawa were Ryleigh Stevenson, Olivia Evola and Grace Landers.
Both the Marquette Varsity and JV teams won the Ridgeview tournament. The Lady Cru Varsity was led by Kaylee Killelea with 71 assists, 9 kills and 6 aces. Leading the JV Lady Cru was Maera Jimenez with 46 assists, 16 aces and 12 kills.
The Lady Irish took 3rd place in the Early Bird Tournament at Hall High School with wins over Stark County, St. Bede and Plano. Seneca moves their record to 5-2 on the season.
Golf
The Ottawa Girls Golf team won the Princeton Ryder Cup with a total score of 174. Zoe Harris and Hannah Duggan shot an 80 with second place individual finish for the Lady Pirates.
Soccer
The Bulldogs successfully defended their Streator Invitational championship for the seventh consecutive season. The Bulldogs are 4-0 on the season.
Elsewhere In Sports
The White Sox Luis Robert homered twice and Brian Goodwin, Eloy Jiménez, and Yasmani Grandal also went deep in a 13-1 rout of the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Sox took five of six this season from the North-Siders. Both teams are off today.
The Cardinals lost to the Pirates 4-3 at PNC Park. The Cards visit the Reds today.
The Illini opened the season Saturday with a 30-22 victory over Nebraska at Memorial Stadium. Illinois will host UTSA on Saturday.
Patrick Cantlay was the winner of the BMW Championship in the PGA.
Michigan is home to this season’s Little League World Series champions.
