A dead bird picked up in Utica yesterday tested positive for West Nile Virus. The LaSalle County Health Department says it was a crow. The department also collects and tests blue jays and robins. The announcement of the positive crow came just one day after a mosquito batch from Ottawa tested positive for the virus.
West Nile causes fever, aches, and nausea. Most people who get the virus don’t get sick, but it is fatal for some people.
