Craig Kimbrel’s wild pitch in the 8th inning brought home the winning run for the Blue Jays as the White Sox fell 2-1 in Toronto. Andrew Vaughn drove in the South-Siders lone run and Lance Lynn allowed one-run over seven innings in the loss.
The White Sox looks to bounce back tonight in Toronto. Dylan Cease takes the mound for the Pale Hose to take on Jose Berrios and the Blue Jays. Pregame begins at 5:30 with the first pitch at 6:07pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.
Rafael Ortega’s walk-off two-run homer in the ninth gave the Cubs a 6-4 win over the Rockies at Wrigley Field. Manuel Rodríguez got the win in relief for the North-Siders which snapped a franchise record 13-game home losing skid. Patrick Wisdom and Ottawa’s Michael Hermosillo each drove in a run for the Cubs.
The Cardinals welcome the Tigers to Busch Stadium tonight. Jack Flaherty takes the mound for St. Louis against Detroit’s Casey Mize. The Cards have dropped four of their last six.
In High School Golf
The Ottawa Varsity team scored a 308 to become Back 2 Back champions at the Streator Invitational. Top scorers for the Pirates were Jonathan Cooper with a first place score of 75 and Drake Kaufman finishing with a 77.
The L-P boy’s team finished third with a team score of 330. Carter Fenza led the Cavaliers with a second overall score of 75.
Seneca defeated Morris 156 to 174 in a head to head matchup. Rylee Stenzel scored a 35 and Owen Quigley shot a 38 to lead the Fighting Irish.
The Ottawa’s girls golf team hosted Sycamore at the Deer Park Country Club. Top golfer for the Lady Pirates was Zoe Harris finishing with a score of 40.
The Seneca Girls varsity team earned second place at Indian Creek Golf Course. Laura Yegge led the Lady Irish with a score of 54.
A couple results in Volleyball
Marquette defeated Lamoille in two sets. Leading the Lady Cru was Eva McCallum with 11 aces and 5 Kills and Kaylee Killelea added 4 aces and 16 assists.
In the JV game Marquette also defeated LaMoille in two sets.
Streator lost to Woodland in two straight sets. Mallory Goerne had 7 kills and Hannah Rambo finished with 3 kills and 2 aces for the Lady Bulldogs.
Earlville defeated Amboy in their season opener. Emma Benson had 15 assist and four aces for the Lady Raiders
In Soccer
The Streator boys team defeated Princeton 6-0 at the SHS Athletic Fields. Brady Grabowski and Davey Rashid each scored a pair of goals for the Bulldogs,
The Newark-Seneca played to a 3-3 tie with the visiting Plano Reapers.
Shepherd outscored Marquette 12-1 in Junior High softball. In the circle for the Lady Rams was Addie Russell, throwing 5 innings, striking out six and only giving up three hits.
