Cong. Adam Kinzinger thinks the coming closures of the Byron and Dresden nuclear power plants are enough of an emergency for Pres. Biden to use emergency powers to prevent them. Kinzinger says seven power plants have closed in the last nine years and two more besides Byron and Dresden could go offline in the next four years. He says that endangers power generation reliability in the United States.
Kinzinger says if the state’s legislature won’t act to help keep the power plants open with the financial incentives Exelon Generation asks for and if Congress can’t do it fast enough, the President must act. He says a federal act is in the works, but it won’t be approved soon enough.
