Ruiz Construction is the first of possibly many contractors to finish the work at Ottawa’s Thornton Park. The City Council last week approved a contract for about $9,800 to pour the concrete there. City Commissioner Marla Rodriguez says the city will probably have several contractors do different parts of the project.
The city terminated a contract with the company that was supposed to do the whole job, because the company didn’t have an apprenticeship program and wasn’t getting the work done quickly enough. Ottawa has a $305,000 state grant to help pay for pickle ball courts, a splash pad, landscaping, and other work.
