Seneca High School Supt. Dan Stecken says he thoroughly researched the options. The school district is requiring masks inside. Gov. Pritzker’s order earlier this month supersedes last month’s school board decision to recommend masks but leave them optional.
Jenae Wise asked how a few school districts are defying the order. Stecken says they’re risking their state recognitions. He says he doesn’t want to deprive students of athletic activities and valid diplomas. If the Illinois State Board of Education revokes such recognition, a school isn’t eligible to participate in Illinois High School Association or Illinois Elementary School Association sports and the diplomas it issues won’t be considered legitimate.
