Ottawa City Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut thinks the city’s missing an opportunity. The City Council has approved spending $20,845 for four signs at the city’s entryways on Illinois 23, U.S. 6, and Illinois 71. They’ll be still signs with flowery designs on them. Eichelkraut says at least one—on Illinois 23 near Interstate 80–should be a digital readout sign with changing messages.
Mayor Dan Aussem thinks such signs cost too much to install and maintain. Eichelkraut says sometimes extra expenses are worth it.
