Luis Robert homered and Seby Zavala drove in a pair as the White Sox defeated the A’s 5-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Dallas Keuchel allowed two-runs over five-innings for the win and Liam Hendriks recorded his 27th save.  The first-place Sox ended a two-game skid.   

The White Sox placed outfielder Adam Engel on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation. 

Tune in tonight as the White Sox continue their home series with the A’s.  Reynaldo Lopez will take the mound for the South-Sider against Oakland’s Chris Bassitt. Pre-game starts at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.

 

The Cubs are approaching history with a 14-5 loss to the Reds in Cincinnati.  Justin Steele suffered the defeat after giving up two-runs over four-innings.  The Cubs longest losing streak in club history is 14 in 1997.    

 

The Cubs will face the Reds in next year’s Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa on August 11th.  It’ll be the second time two major league teams come to Dyersville for a regular season game.  The White Sox and Yankees thriller last Thursday, was the most watched regular season MLB game in 16 years.

 

The Cardinals host the Brewers tonight for the start of a three-game set.  Adam Wainwright takes the mound for St. Louis against Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes.  The Cards have won six straight. 

 

The Chicago Bears are bolstering their offensive line with the addition of Jason Peters. The Bears signed the veteran left tackle to a one-year contract.  The 39-year-old has played 17 seasons with the Bills and Eagles.

 

The Bulls defeated the Hornets 99-74 in NBA Summer League action in Las Vegas.  Ayo Dosunmu led all scorers with 19 points.  The win was the final summer league game for the Bulls.

 

The Chicago Sky hosts the Wings tonight. The Sky are the 5th ranked team in the WNBA with an 11-and-10 record. 

 

The Blackhawks have signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year contract. Nylander was acquired by the Hawks in July 2019 from the Buffalo Sabres.

 

A 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card recently sold at an auction for six-point-six million dollars, breaking the record for most expensive sports card of all time.  It is believed there are only about 60 of these Honus Wagner cards known to exist because the former Pittsburgh Pirate asked for his card to be removed from the 1909 through 1911 print runs. 

 

In local sports

The Seneca golf team were winners at the Midland Invitational at Timber Ridge Golf Course.  Rylee Stenzel led the Fighting Irish with a score of 82. The Marquette Crusaders placed fourth with a team score of 372.

 

The Marquette/Wallace team defeated Putnam County 13-7 in Junior High Softball.
