Sen. Tammy Duckworth says she wants to hear from people who know of any Illinoisans in Afghanistan. She says she’s finding out what she can about such cases and working with the State Department to track them. Of particular interest to her is the case of Mark Frerichs. He’s a Navy veteran who was working as an engineer in Afghanistan when he disappeared early last year.
Duckworth says the U.S. shouldn’t break its word to the Afghans who bled alongside American troops over the last 20 years. She says thousands of them put themselves and their families in great danger to make a better Afghanistan.
