The White Sox failed to score any runs yesterday afternoon in a 1-0 loss to the Twins at Target Field. Eloy Jiménez accounted for two of The South-Siders six hits. José Ruiz suffered the defeat for the Sox, who dropped two of three in the series.

The eight-thousand seat temporary ballpark was built on the farm where the Oscar-nominated 1989 film “Field of Dreams” was shot. It will be the first MLB game ever played in Iowa. The Sox and Yankees were originally scheduled to play in Dyersville last year, but MLB reconfigured its schedule because of the pandemic.

The White Sox will be without starter Carlos Rodon for the near future. The team placed the lefty on the 10-day injured list with shoulder fatigue. Rodon was scheduled to start tonight against New York in Dyersville. Instead, right-hander Lance Lynn will take the mound against the Yankees Andrew M. Heaney.
Jake Arrieta ran into a buzzsaw in the Cubs 10-0 loss to the Brewers at Wrigley Field. Arrieta gave up eight runs on eleven hits over four-innings of work, dropping to 5-and-11 this season.
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes threw ten straight strikeouts last night against the Cubs, tying a Major League Baseball record. All the pitches ended with swings and misses. Burnes is now the third player to accomplish the feat after Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola in June and Hall of Famer Tom Seaver back in 1970. Overall Burnes hit a career high by striking out 15 batters in the victory.
Adam Wainwright’s complete game, two-hit, shutout pushed the Cardinals to a 4-0 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Wainwright also did well at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Paul DeJong drove in a pair for the Cards, which goes for the sweep today.
The Chicago Bears welcomed the Miami Dolphins to Halas Hall yesterday for the first two joint practices in advance of Saturday’s preseason opener at Soldier Field. The two teams will hit the practice field one more time today before Saturday’s exhibition. The NFL Hall of Fame Game was played last week, the rest of the league kicks off preseason week one starting tonight.
The PGA Tour makes its stop in Greensboro, North Carolina this week for the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.
Former two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith has enrolled at North Carolina A&T State to pursue his degree and possibly join the university’s golf team. Smith has petitioned the NCAA to deem him eligible as he went straight to the NBA out of high school. NCAA rules don’t allow for individuals to compete collegiately if they played professionally, but that doesn’t apply if the pro athlete is competing in a different sport.
