Governor Pritzker announced an update to the IDPH All-Sports Policy that will require masks to be worn for all indoor IHSA athletic events regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. This mask directive for indoor athletic events applies to student-athletes, coaches, officials, game personnel, and fans.
Lucas Giolito gave up three home runs over four innings as the White Sox fell 9-1 to the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field. Giolito surrendered six-runs overall, dropping to 8-and-8. José Abreu homered for the Sox lone run.

Cardinals relievers couldn’t hold on to a lead in a 7-4 loss to the Braves at Busch Stadium. J.A. Happ allowed two-runs over five innings in his debut start for St. Louis before handing it over to the bullpen with a 3-2 lead. Nolan Arenado supplied the offense early for the Cards with a three-run homer in the first.
The Bears are adding depth to their defense with the addition of Alec Ogletree. The veteran linebacker agreed to a one-year contract yesterday. Ogletree has appeared in 95 games with 94 starts over eight NFL seasons with the Rams, Giants and Jets.
The NFL is back in action tonight, The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers will meet in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
At the Olympics in Tokyo
The USA basketball team erupted in the second half to dominate Australia 97-78 as they advanced to the gold medal game. The Americans, who were down 15 at one point in the first half, outscored the Aussies by 22 in the third to take control of the game.
The US women’s soccer team won the bronze medal by defeating Australia 4-3.
Ryan Crouser is taking home the gold in the shot put. Crouser threw the shot 23.3 meters, besting his own Olympic record. Teammate Joe Kovacs took home the silver.
Nevin Harrison is making history in Tokyo. The 19-year-old became the first woman to win Olympic gold in the single 200-meter canoe sprint, posting a time of 45.932.
