The city of Ottawa has the playground equipment for Thornton Park. Now, City Hall will send checks totaling nearly $135,000 to Hacienda Landscaping for the work it did at the park before its contract was canceled. Mayor Dan Aussem says the city has to figure out what’s left to do in what was a contract for more than $500,000.

The city has a $305,000 state grant for the work. The grant rules say the project must be done by August next year. The Ottawa City Council ended the contract with Hacienda Landscaping, finding the company was taking too long and didn’t have an apprenticeship program, as required.
