The Cardinals host the Atlanta Braves tonight at Busch Stadium. Jon Lester makes his debut for St. Louis against Atlanta’s Max Fried. The Cards have split their last four.
The NBA free agency started last night and the Chicago Bulls have been very busy. The Bulls landed point guard Lonzo Ball in a sign and trade with the Pelicans. The Bulls also reportedly signed free agent guard Alex Caruso to a four-year deal worth 37-million dollars. Caruso played with the Lakers this past season and averaged 6.4 points per game.
Over at the Olympics in Tokyo
Gymnast Simone Biles won a bronze medal in the balance beam, her first of the Tokyo Olympics. Biles earned her seventh career Olympic medal, which tied her with Shannon Miller for the most by an American in gymnastics
The US men’s basketball team will march on to the semifinals after beating Spain 95-81 behind Kevin Durant’s 29 points.
American duo April Ross and Alix Klineman are heading to the women’s beach volleyball semifinals after beating Germany in two sets in their quarterfinal matchup. The duo is the last remaining team for the U.S. in both men’s and women’s beach volleyball.
Jessica Springsteen is getting ready for her Olympic debut. The equestrian daughter of New Jersey icon Bruce Springsteen will take part in the individual jumping round at the Tokyo Olympics later today. Springsteen was named to the U.S. jumping team after strong results during competition recently in Florida.
U.S. women’s soccer team goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher hyperextended her right knee in the Olympic semifinals a nd will not be available for the bronze medal match against Australia on Thursday.
