A late Ottawa couple’s children are giving $525,000 to the Ottawa YMCA in their honor. That gets the Y a little closer to the now $22 million building project goal. Executive Director Joe Capece says the Y is blessed to have people like Joe and Muriel O’Brien’s children help like that. But the Y appreciates any level of help and will have a community campaign to collect small donations.
The O’Brien name will go on the building’s natatorium, or swimming area.
Capece expects groundbreaking to be in the fall or spring. The building will go behind the Knights of Columbus near the riverfront.
