Charles Carroll, Jr.
1945 – 2021
Charles W. Carroll Jr “CW”, 75, of Ottawa Illinois, passed away on July 25th, 2021, after a long battle with throat cancer.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Muller Funeral Home in Ottawa; Private burial will follow at Rutland Cemetery in Rutland Township, where full military rites will be conducted by the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Charlie was born on November 21, 1945, to Charles W. Carroll Sr. and Arvy, (Goode) in Marseilles, Illinois. After graduating from Marseilles High School in 1963, and a short time at Western University in Illinois, Charlie was drafted into the US Army, where he served as a medic, stationed at Fort Sam Houston & Fort Hood, both in Texas, from 1966 to 1968. Shortly after he left the US Army, he returned home to Ottawa and begin work at Marbon/Borg-Warner plastics plant (now Sabic), where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 2004. Charlie was an avid bowler & pool player, playing in several local leagues around Ottawa and Marseilles from 1968 till 2010. Like his father, he had a passion for horse racing. It was a main stay of his life.
Charlie is survived by his children, Curt W. (Jill) Carroll, Elizabeth Nugent, Leslie (Steve) Fischer; 5 grandchildren, Kyra (David) Gibson, Christopher W. Carroll, Drew Carroll, Stella Fischer, Owen Nugent; 1 great grandchild Bentley Gibson; and 2 sisters, Wanda (Dave) Prybylinski and Barb (Ken) Lane.
He was preceded by his parents Charles & Arvy Carroll, and a granddaughter Lily Mae Fischer.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Pallbearers will be Curt W. Carroll, Christopher Carroll, Drew Carroll, and Ken Smith.
