A well paying job that Illinois Valley Community College trains people for is computer aided design. Instructor Dorene Data says there are always local employers hiring drafters. And some people whose main job is something else can pick up CAD skills to add to their employability.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the average pay for drafters of all kinds is around $58,000. The bureau also predicts a slight drop in the number of jobs in the next decade. Data says the bureau has said that for a long time, but it remains a high paying job with many openings.
