By the end of September, nearly all OSF Healthcare employees are expected to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The new policy, announced yesterday, does allow some to have medical or ethical exemptions. They have to specifically ask for exemptions and document the reasons. Employees who don’t get vaccines could be fired.
OSF Healthcare CEO Mike Cruz says it’s the health care provider’s ethical obligation to protect patients. An OSF statement says it’s consistent with the policy already requiring employees to keep up on other vaccinations including those for whooping cough, measles, rubella, and mumps.
