There were no evacuations because of a battery storage area fire in southeast LaSalle County yesterday. The fire started Monday morning at a location Invenergy owns just west of the LaSalle Station nuclear power plant. Invenergy also owns many of the wind turbines in the area.
The LaSalle County Emergency Management Agency says this fire is different from the battery warehouse fire in Morris last month. Thousands of Morris residents had to leave their homes for several days. Light smoke came out of the fire in LaSalle County yesterday. LaSalle County EMA says the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency was taking air samples to make sure it’s safe enough.
WCMY News left contact information at an Invenergy office near the fire Monday. As of this post, we haven’t heard from the company.
