Carlos Rodón’s performance lifted the White Sox to a 4-0 win over the Astros at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Rodon struck out ten batters and allowed only one hit over seven shutout innings.  Yoán Moncada and Tim Anderson each homered for the Sox, who have won seven of their last eight.

The Cubs couldn’t secure the sweep, losing 6-4 to the Diamondbacks in Arizona.  Dan Winkler was tagged with the loss.  Javier Báez drove in a pair and Kris Bryant had two hits and a RBI for the North-Siders.

 

Harrison Bader drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Cardinals edged the Giants 2-1 at Busch Stadium.  Paul DeJong homered and Genesis Cabrera picked up the win for St. Louis, which took two of three in the series.  Alex Reyes set a Major League record with his 24th consecutive save converted to start his career. 

The Cubs head to St Louis to face the Cardinals at Busch Stadium tonight.

 

American tennis star Coco Gauff is pulling out of the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19. 

 

More athletes are testing positive for COVID-19 in the Olympic Village.  On Sunday, organizers in Tokyo confirmed ten new cases connected to the games.  South Africa revealed two of its soccer players along with a team analyst all tested positive for the virus. Opening ceremonies are set for Friday.

 

Collin Morikawa took home his second Major championship, winning the Open Championship at Royal Saint George’s.  

 

NHL teams revealed their protected lists Sunday, which exposed many star players to the Seattle Kraken  expansion draft.  Teams were allowed to protect seven forwards, three defensemen and a goalie, or eight skaters and one goalie. Players are available to be the one picked by Seattle on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees are banning a fan for life after he hit a player with a baseball at Yankee Stadium.  The incident took place Saturday night when a fan threw a baseball from the stands and hit Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo in the back.
