Water is being drained from the newly re-watered section of the Illinois and Michigan Canal in Ottawa. That’s to kill the algae and figure out what to do about the leak that caused water to get onto the hiking and biking trail alongside the waterway. City Hall says it’ll take three or four days to empty the canal. Then it’ll take a week or two to get rid of the decaying algae smell. The City Council will decide what to do with the canal.
