The White Sox are going into the All-Star break on a winning note. Adam Engel hit the go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the tenth in the Sox 7-5 ten inning victory over the Orioles in Baltimore. The South-Siders are first in the AL Central with an American League-best 54-and-35 record. Liam Hendriks got the win in relief and Matt Foster posted his first save of the season.
The Cubs are getting an early start to their All-Star break after yesterday’s game against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field was postponed due to rain. The postponed game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on September 24th. The Cubs head into the break tied with St. Louis for third in the NL Central and eight games behind the leading Brewers.
Round one of the 2021 MLB draft was held yesterday in Colorado.
- The White Sox selected shortstop Colson Montgomery out of Southridge High School in Huntingburg, Indiana with the 22nd pick.
- The Cubs selected Kansas State left-hander Jordan Wicks with the 21st pick.
- The Cardinals selected right-hander Michael McGreevy out of the University of California, Santa Barbara with the 18th pick in the draft.
The Bucks are striking back in the NBA Finals after blasting the Suns 120-100 in Game Three in Milwaukee. The Bucks now trail two-games-to-one in the best-of-seven. Game Four is Wednesday in Milwaukee.
Novak Djokovic won his 20th Grand Slam after claiming the Wimbledon title yesterday. It is Djokovic’s third Grand Slam title this year, having already won the Australian and French opens. The last time a men’s tennis player arrived at the U.S. Open with victories in the other three major championships was in 1969 by Rod Laver.
Over in the PGA, Lucas Glover fired a seven-under par in the final round of the John Deere Classic to win at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
Kurt Busch outraced the field to take the Quaker State 400 in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
In the UFC, Dustin Poirier beat Conor McGregor for the second time in six months when McGregor badly injured his left leg in the closing seconds of the first round. The fight was stopped after the first-round bell when McGregor was unable to continue.

The Illinois District 20 Little League 11U championship game was played on Sunday night at Varland Park in Ottawa and the Ottawa American team rallied in the end to beat Peru 7-8. Ottawa will now advance to the Sub-State tournament in Peru this weekend.
