Yesterday afternoon, Leury García went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI as the White Sox defeated the Twins 6-1 in Minnesota.  Tim Anderson had four-hits and drove in a run for the South-Siders who won two of three in the series.  Lance Lynn improved to 9-and-3 after tossing six innings of one-run ball.  The Sox visit the Orioles tomorrow night and you can hear that game on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.

 

Adam Eaton’s second tenure with the White Sox is over.  The club designated him for assignment after reinstating outfielder Adam Engel from the 10-day injured list yesterday.  His departure gives younger players a chance to play with Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert working their way back from injury.

 

The Cubs losing streak is over at eleven games following an 8-3 win over the Phillies at Wrigley Field.  Patrick Wisdom drove in a pair for the North-Siders while Joc Pederson, Anthony Rizzo and Nico Hoerner each had two hits and an RBI.  Alec Mills allowed three-runs on five hits over five and two-thirds for the win. 

 

The Cubs placed the struggling veteran pitcher Jake Arrieta on the 10-day injured list due to right hamstring tightness.  The former Cy Young award winner insists that he still has plenty left in the tank. 

 

The Cardinals fell 5-2 to the Giants in San Francisco. Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt plated runs for the Cards, which took two of three in the series.  

 

Pitcher Carlos Martínez will be out of the Cardinals’ rotation.  The right-hander was placed on the injured list yesterday with a torn ligament in his right thumb.

 

The Cubs will host the Cardinals in a three game series starting tomorrow at Wrigley Field.

 

Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani  continues to etch his name into the MLB record books.  Ohtani broke the record for most home runs in a Major League season by a Japanese player, after hitting his 32nd homer of the year on Wednesday.  He broke the mark set by Hideki Matsui in 2004 as a member of the New York Yankees. 

 

In the MLS, the Chicago Fire rallied to beat Orlando City 3-1 at Soldier Field.

 

The Tampa Bay Lightning are the Stanley Cup champions after defeating the Montreal Canadiens 1-0 in Game Five in Florida.  Tampa Bay is the first team since the 2016-17 Pittsburgh Penguins to successfully defend their championship.  

 

The Suns and Bucks will battle in Game Two of the NBA Finals in Phoenix tonight.  Milwaukee is looking to even the series up after dropping Game One 118-105 on Tuesday night.  

 

The PGA will make its next stop in Silvis, Illinois at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run starting today. 

 

The Bears will be welcoming back fans to training camp this summer following a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19.  The team will allow a limited number of fans to attend 14 practices during training camp at Halas Hall from July 29th through August 25th.  Approximately one-thousand free tickets will be available each day.  Registration to enter the drawing for the opportunity to receive free tickets will open today at noon.
