The Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association announced yesterday the 2021 All-State Teams. In the Class 1A Newark senior Dalton Reibel and in the Class 3A LP Cavalier junior Julius Sanchez were awarded the state honors.

 

 Yasmani Grandal homered twice as the White Sox powered past the Twins 13-3 at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Brian Goodwin, Andrew Vaughn, José Abreu, and Gavin Sheets also went deep for The Souh-Siders.  Dylan Cease surrendered two runs over six-innings for the Sox, who have won three straight. 

 

The White Sox  wrap-up the home series with the Twins. Pre-game starts at 12:30. The first pitch at 1:10pm  with Carlos Rodon taking the mound for the Pale Hose. Don’t miss any of the action on the radio at 1430AM WCMY.

 

There was good news for the White Sox. Pitcher Michael Kopech is back with the club after being reinstated from the 10-day injured list.  The right-hander was out since May 27th due to left hamstring soreness and a stint on the bereavement list

 

The Cubs exploded for seven runs in the first inning, only to lose 15-7 to the Brewers in Milwaukee.  Patrick Wisdom and Javier Báez plated two runs apiece for the North-Siders.  The Cubs will visit the Reds tomorrow night.

 

The Cardinals swept the D-Backs with a 7-4 victory at Busch Stadium. Kwang Hyun Kim  tossed five-innings of one run ball and accounted for his first two runs batted in as a major leaguer.  Paul Goldschmidt and Tyler O’Neill each had three hits and an RBI for St. Louis.  The Cards visit the Rockies tonight.

In the NBA playoffs.

The Phoenix Suns are going back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993.  Chris Paul scored 41 points as the Suns defeated the Clippers 130-103 in Game Six of the Western Conference Finals in Los Angeles.  Tonight, the Eastern Conference Finals shift back to Milwaukee with the series tied at two-games apiece.  The Suns will face either the Bucks or Hawks in the NBA Finals next week.

 

The Lightning  won 3-1 over the Canadiens in Game Two of the Stanley Cup Final in Florida.   Tampa Bay now has a two-games-to-none advantage in the series. 

 

Over in the PGA, The Rocket Mortgage Classic will tee off this today in Detroit.  Bryson DeChambeau will attempt to defend his championship at the Detroit Golf Club.

 

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are the winners of the College World Series.  The Bulldogs took down Vanderbilt nine-to-nothing in game three yesterday.  It’s the school’s first national championship in a team sport.

 

Today is July 1st and that means the New York Mets will pay former player Bobby Bonilla another annual installment of $1.19 millions dollars today. Bonilla hasn’t played in the majors since 2001, but he will be paid through 2035. when he’ll be 72.
