LaSalle Station’s good safety rating for 2020 came after more than 2,000 hours of Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspections. That’s an average of almost six hours a day, and it would be eight hours a day if inspections happened only on weekdays. Ken Riemer with the NRC says they’re random and the power plant personnel usually don’t get clues about what the inspector will want to see.

And inspections can happen any time–day, night, or weekends. Riemer and others from the NRC explained the safety rating for LaSalle Station during an online forum yesterday.
