Illinois college athletes will be allowed to sign endorsement deals under a new law signed by Governor Pritzker. The law, which goes into effect tomorrow, makes Illinois the latest of nearly two dozen states to enact policies allowing student-athletes to profit off the use of their names and likenesses. The governor signed the measure yesterday, a day before an NCAA vote on a proposal that would institute similar rules for schools nationwide.
Last night on WCMY, The White Sox held on to beat the Twins 7-6 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Gavin Sheets and Leury García each drove in a pair of runs for the South-Siders. Lucas Giolito allowed three runs over six innings for the win and Liam Hendriks posted his AL leading 21st save.

The Cubs struggles continue after falling to the Brewers 2-1 in Milwaukee. Patrick Wisdom drove in the North-Siders lone run on a double in the fourth inning. Zach Davies was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs over four innings.
The injury bug continues to bite the Cubs. The club placed reliever Ryan Tepera on the ten-day injured list with a calf issue and other minor ailments. Third baseman and outfielder Kris Bryant is day to day after tweaking his side during a dive attempt Saturday in Los Angeles.
Nolan Arenado drilled a two-run homer in the Cardinals 3-2 win over the D-Backs at Busch Stadium. Carlos Martínez struck out six batters and allowed one-run over six innings, improving to 4-and-9. Alex Reyes got his 19th save of the season. The Cards go for the sweep today.

In the NBA playoffs
The Hawks took down the Bucks 110-88 in Game Four of the Eastern Conference Finals in Atlanta. The series is tied at two games apiece. Game Five is Thursday in Milwaukee. Tonight, the Suns look to close out the Clippers in Game Six of the Western Conference Finals in Los Angeles.
Game two of the NHL Stanley Cup Final is tonight and The Lightning will look to take a two game lead when they face the Canadiens in Florida. Tampa Bay won Game One 5-1 over Montreal.
Serena Williams’ quest to tie a major championship by a woman ended abruptly Tuesday as the 23-time grand slam winner was forced to withdraw with a right-leg injury. Williams slipped while up 3-1 forcing her to stop during the first set.
The Chicago Marathon is returning this year after being canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 43rd annual Chicago Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 10th. The race’s course takes runners through 29 neighborhoods in Chicago.
