Last night’s series opener between the White Sox and Twins was postponed due to rain at Guaranteed Rate Field. The cancelled game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on July 19th.
If the weather permits, the White Sox start a three game homestand with Minnesota. Due to the rainout yesterday, Lucas Giolito will take the mound tonight to take on the Twins. Pre-game begins at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10pm on the radio at 1430AM WCMY.
The Cubs bullpen gave up ten runs in the bottom of the eighth in a lopsided 14-4 loss to the Brewers in Milwaukee. Ryan Tepera was tagged with the defeat. Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom each hit two-run homers for the North-Siders,who have dropped four straight games.
The Cardinals broke a 1-1 tie with six runs in the seventh in a 7-1 win against the D-Backs at Busch Stadium. Paul DeJong smacked a two-run homer and Yadier Molina drove in two for St. Louis in the seventh. Giovanny Gallegos got the win in relief.
In the NBA playoffs
Paul George went off for 41 points, 13 rebounds and six assists as the Clippers held off elimination with a 116-102 win over the Suns in Game Five in Phoenix. The Clippers cut the series deficit to three games to two in favor of the Suns. Tonight, the Bucks visit Atlanta for Game Four. The Hawks Trae Young is questionable as he battles an ankle and foot issue. Milwaukee leads the series, 2-1.
Over in the NHL
The Lightning got an early goal from Erik Cernak as they cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Canadiens in Game One of the Stanley Cup Final in Tampa. Game Two is Wednesday night.
The NHL announced that the 2022 All-Star Weekend will be hosted by the Vegas Golden Knights. Las Vegas has become a popular hockey destination since the Golden Knights broke through in the league in 2017.
The Americans are making waves on the first day at Wimbledon. Frances Tiafoe pulled the first major upset of the tournament on the men’s side by knocking off fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. On the women’s side, 28-year-old Sloane Stephens upset two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.

Illinois will host Notre Dame next season as part of the 2021 Big Ten/ACC Men’s Basketball Challenge. The game will be played November 29th at State Farm Center. This will mark the 43rd game between the Fighting Illini and Fighting Irish.
The wife of Chicago Bulls and White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has passed away. Martyl Reinsdorf died yesterday following a long illness in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The 85-year-old designed five of the six Bulls NBA championship rings and was involved with creating the other. Reinsdorf also designed the White Sox World Series championship ring in 2005.
