The Interstate Eight Conference announced the All-Conference teams for the 2021 season.

In Softball, Ottawa Lady Pirate pitcher Abby Bukantis was named the I-8 most valuable player for the 2021 softball season.

Also named to the all-conference softball first team from Ottawa were Abi Claus and Ryleigh Stehl. Lauren Carlson and Cassie Turk recieved  honorable mention honors.

The Interstate Eight baseball first team selections for the Pirates were  Luke Cushing, Anthony Cooper, Evan Evola and Jake Serby. Honorable mentions went to Jace Addis.

In soccer, Ottawa’s Gabi Krueger was selected for the I-8 first team.  Ryley Jett, Rylee Duncan and Lexi Sema each received honorable mention.

 

 The Sox begin a four game series at Guaranteed Rate Field against the Minnesota Twins. Lucas Giolito will take the mound for the South-Siders. Pre-game starts at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10pm on the radio at 1430AM WCMY.

 

 The White Sox split a doubleheader with the Mariners at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Taylor Trammell homered twice as Seattle won Game One 3-2.  Zack Collins drove in four-runs, helping the South-Siders win Game Two 5-7..  With the win, the Sox salvaged the final game in the three-game series. 

During game two, Mariners pitcher Hector Santiago became the first Major League Baseball player to be ejected for violating the league’s foreign-substance policy.  However, the Seattle lefty denies the claims of doctoring the ball.

 

Clayton Kershaw’s 13 strikeouts over eight innings of one-run baseball lifted the Dodgers to a 7-1 win over the Cubs in LA.  The North-Siders lone run came on a Javier Báez home run in the fourth. The Cubs will host the Brewers tonight. 

 

Max Kranick threw five perfect innings in his Major League debut as the Pirates beat the Cardinals 7-2 at Busch Stadium.  Johan Oviedo fell to 0-and-4 as he gave up five runs over four innings.  The Cards host the D-Backs tonight.

 

 

In the NBA playoffs

The Bucks pushed past the Hawks 113-102 in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Finals in Atlanta.  The Bucks now take a 2-1 series lead.  Tonight, the Suns will look to punch their ticket to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993 when they host the Clippers for Game Five.  Phoenix is up three games to one in the series.

Over in the PGA, Harris English won the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

 

The Wimbledon 2021 Championships get underway today.  Men’s favorite Novak Djokovic comes into the contest with the other two Grand Slam events under his belt.  If the world’s number one player can manage to win Wimbledon, he’ll tie Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for most majors all-time for a man with 20.

Serena Williams is not going to the Tokyo Olympics.  Speaking to reporters at Wimbledon on Sunday, Williams explained there are many reasons she’s choosing to opt out of the Olympics this year.
