People lined Main street from the Jordan Block to Ottawa High School to welcome home the new IWCOA State Champion Grason Johnson. The Ottawa Pirates Grason Johnson competed with sixty four wrestlers  in Springfield Illinois to win the state freshman / sophomore 126 pound weight class. Congratulations to Grason and the Johnson Family.

 

Yesterday Afternoon, Yasmani Grandal’s fifth-inning two-run double lifted the White Sox to a 4-3 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  Leury Garcia homered as the South-Siders snapped its five-game slide.  Dylan Cease gave up two runs, one earned, to pick up his sixth win, while Liam Hendriks nailed down his 19th save.  The Sox host the Mariners tomorrow night.

 

The Cubs are on the West Coast for the start of a four-game set against the Dodgers tonight.  Zach Davies takes the mound for the North-Siders against LA’s Walker Buehler.  The Cubs are 3-and-6 in their last nine.

 

The Cardinals outhit the Tigers but still fell 6-2 in Detroit.  John Gant was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs in three innings and Nolan Arenado hit a solo home run for St. Louis, which was swept in the two-game set.  The Cards return home to open a four-game series against the Pirates tonight.    

 

The Chicago Fire fell 1-0 to Cincinnati at Soldier Field. The Fire have lost three-straight and will host the Philadelphia Union Saturday night. 

 

 

Last night in the NBA Playoffs, Trae Young scored 48 points as the Hawks topped the Bucks 116-113 in Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals in Milwaukee.   Atlanta takes a 1-0 series lead.  Tonight, the Suns will visit the Clippers for Game Three of the Western Conference Finals.  Phoenix holds a 2-0 series lead. 

 

Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine is committing to Team USA for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.  Earning a spot on Team USA is the latest accolade for LaVine following a spectacular 2020-21 season. 

 

Over in the PGA, Dustin Johnson will look to defend his title at the Travelers Championship starting today at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

 

Hall of Fame play-by-play broadcaster Pat Foley will call his final season of Blackhawks hockey next season.  The multi-time Emmy-award winner will call a portion of the upcoming schedule and use the year to pass the torch to his successor.  The search for the next Blackhawks’ play-by-play broadcaster is currently underway.
