Terry Ahearn has been developing an agriculture program since he started as principal at Grand Ridge School five years ago. Some of the projects so far may not seem like part of an ag program. That’s because it’s also about the importance of community.

Ahearn says this year, students will rake leaves for older people who can’t do it themselves. He’s asking the community to supply the rakes and other tools. And he’s planning a cookout this fall.

In the last year, Ahearn formed a committee to support making it into a fully-fledged ag program. He says it’ll teach kids from kindergarten through eighth grade how to prepare for high school FFA membership and competition.
