The state championships in IHSA baseball finished over the weekend.
In the Class 2A at Illinois State University, Freeburgh defeated Timothy Christian from Elmhurst 12-0.
Plainfield East won the Class 4A title by outscoring Lake Park from Roselle 6-5 at the DuPage Medical Group Field in Joliet
At the Class 1A wrestling sectional at Sandwich High School.
The Seneca Fighting Irish qualified 3 wrestlers for the Class 1A State Finals in Springfield on Thursday. Owen Feiner and Gavin Robertson both placed 3rd and Nathan Elliott placed 2nd to become the first ever heavyweight to qualify for state from Seneca High School..
The Ottawa Pirates sophomore Charles Medrow finished third At the Class 2A wrestling sectional at Geneseo High School and will advance to the State Finals in Springfield on Friday at the Bank of Springfield Center. Grason Johnson and Marek Duffy each scored a single win for the Ottawa team.
The Little Ten Conference announced the all-conference baseball and softball teams.
In baseball, Connor Holdiman and Ivan Stafford from the Serena Huskers and Earlville’s Davis Sweeney and Bryar Keller were awarded as all-conference.
In softball, Taylor Staton, Katie Baker and Paisley Twait from Serena were named to the team. Earlville’s Elizabeth Browder, Brynn Guelde and Paige Marks were also awarded all-conference.

The White Sox were unable to avoid getting swept by the Houston Astros after Dallas Keuchel was roughed up in his first appearance against his former team. The Sox went on to lose 8-2. The South-Siders will enjoy a day off before starting a two-game set in Pittsburgh tomorrow night against the Pirates.
The Cubs won yesterday’s series finale with the Marlins 2-0. Alex Mills improved his record to 3-and-1 after five quality innings with three strikeouts. Craig Kimbrel closed the game out for his 20th save of the season. The North-Siders will host the Cleveland Indians tonight in the first game of a two-game set with Adbert Alzolay slated to make the start for the Cubs.
Adam Wainwright earned a seven-inning complete game victory after the Cardinals took the first game of their doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves 9-1. Unfortunately, the Cards were unable to take the second game and were held scoreless in a 1-0 loss.
In the PGA, Jon Rahm is the winner of the 121st U.S. Open at the South Course at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California.
Kyle Larson is keeping his spot in victory lane. Larson took home the win at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville. It’s the fourth-straight week Larson has found his way into victory lane, after wins at the All-Star Race, Sonoma, and Charlotte.
