After 40 years of waiting the city of Marseilles will soon start to accept bids for a water and sewer extension.
The plan is for the project to start at 11th street and go up Rutland Street to the interstate.
City Engineer Mike Etscheid says he remembers a couple of times a sewer and water extension was supposed to happen.
He says that a few companies wanted to build out where the extension would go but both of them back out.
Etscheid also says the project will help bring development and grow the city.
Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck called the vote on Wednesday historic.
