Algae’s growing on the newly watered part of the Illinois and Michigan Canal in Ottawa. A leak is letting out water in the wrong place, so it’s not circulating enough to disrupt the growth. Helen Jo Reardon asked the City Council what’s being done about it. She says it’s a swamp.
Mayor Dan Aussem says the city’s working with the designers to plug the leak. The city will also need to buy a boat equipped with a weed cutting tools.
