St. Rep. Tom Demmer says there was a lot of stuff tucked into the 3,000-page budget bill that shouldn’t have been there. The Dixon Republican says he wishes Gov. Pritzker had reviewed the budget like the legislature didn’t. Demmer says Pritzker could have used the amendatory veto on the extras.
Demmer says that would have forced the legislature to deal with things issue by issue. He wishes the governor had vetoed the legislative pay raises, $1 billion in pork projects, and $650 million in higher taxes for businesses. As things are, Demmer says the Democrats who voted for the bill can claim they had no idea what all was in it.
