An estimated 8,000 wooden pallets were on fire in that blaze south of Mendota Monday night. Winds fanned the flames and made them hard to fight. Mendota Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser says 14 fire departments helped put it out. They were the LaSalle, Peru, Earlville, Amboy, Sbulette, LaMoille, utica, Cherry, West Brooklyn, Paw Paw, Wallace, Shabbona, Leland, and Lee departments. There were also police and ambulance services on the scene.
He says it’s nice to have such dedicated and dependable personnel in the area.
One fire fighter went to St. Paul Hospital after being overcome by the heat.
