Police found a woman in her 20’s safe at an apartment in Peoria Tuesday. Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says now they want to find a man who may have forced her into a sport utility vehicle at 7th and Plum streets two mornings ago.
Just what charges 27-year old Bobby A. Cross of Peoria may face in connection with the alleged abduction aren’t known yet. Weapons charges are possible because of two guns police found during the investigation.
Cross and the woman have a relationship and have been living together. They got into an argument after a trip to LaSalle. Their dispute moved a few blocks away and crossed the LaSalle-Peru city boundary. A little before 5am Monday, a woman in Peru heard a scream, looked out her window, and saw a woman taken into a sport utility vehicle.
Peru police immediately got the FBI involved. LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton activated the local major case squad.
The first reports about the case were that the person taken away could have been a teenager. Bernabei says the woman has a small stature that could lead someone to think she is.
