US Marine Corps Lance Corporal Mason Laurance Rukundo Kategaya, 21, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away June 3, 2021.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday June 18 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stavanger Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery.
Mason was born March 16, 2000, in Urbana, IL, to Michael Kategaya and Dr. Monica Anderson, PharmD. Mason spent most of his childhood in the Seneca area. On December 2, 2019, he married Madison Wren of AZ who survives.
He was an active-duty United States Marine Corps service member specializing in intelligence. He graduated from the Defense Language Institute in 2020. Mason led an active life skiing in the Colorado mountains. He enjoyed video-gaming and studying music, especially piano. Animals held a special place in his heart, and he and his wife volunteered at local animal shelters. He loved his wife, family, friends and dog dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Madison; his mother, Dr. Monica Anderson, PharmD of Colorado Springs, CO; his father, Mike Kategaya of Detroit, MI; two brothers, Brandon and Max Kategaya; his grandparents, Larry and Kathy Anderson of Miller Township; his aunt, Kristin (RJ) Payne of Morris; his uncle, Ryan (Amanda) Anderson of Verona; and his cousins, Cody Carey, Breckin Anderson, Atley Anderson, Madilyn Payne, Brayden Payne, and Knox Payne.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, John and Mary Lynn Osmond and Ralph and Patricia Anderson.
