People who want LaSalle County parks to stay open told the County Board so Monday afternoon.

County Board member Jerry Myers said at a committee hearing last month the county should vote on closing Shabbona and Catlin parks and saving the money it takes to operate them. Monday, he said the voters should decide. Myers says there are many other parks in the area, most people don’t know where the county’s parks are, and he thinks the townships the parks are in could take them over.

Most of the other board members who spoke about it said the parks should stay open. One said a decision should be made soon, before the county has to replace a retiring park manager in the fall.

A crowd of people who want LaSalle County’s parks to stay open lined the walls at Monday’s County Board meeting.
